We now have over twenty members, who between us can boast an impressive crop of piccolos, concert, alto and bass flutes, which means we are starting to be able to explore some of the repertoire which is more heavily scored for the low flutes.
Our aims as a group are:

To provide opportunities for people in the Peterborough and surrounding area to participate in music making, focusing primarily on the flute family.

To put on public music concerts in the Peterborough and surrounding area.

To raise money for local charities through our musical activities.
Putting our aims into practice:
We attended a local primary school running a short educational workshop to showcase th
e ‘flute family’, which included a short interactive presentation interspersed with a few pieces to illustrate certain points. We were fortunate that that particular school had a number of Nuvo flutes which meant that the entire class could have a go at playing the flute (this was pre-Covid). We look forward to returning to this school and its sister-school in June 2023.
In 2019, we co-ordinated a weekend of flute playing run by Wonderful Winds, which was at full capacity both days and catered for beginner to experienced flute players. With its success (and as part of the mission to ensure there are opportunities for the flute choir beyond the usual rehearsals), in 2023, we will host a workshop with Fenland Music Centre and also welcome Carla Rees to lead us in a low flutes workshop.
Our public playing events are in aid of charities or supporting local causes. Our Christmas fundraising sessions at Serpentine Green and Van Hage are usually in aid of Light Project Peterborough and we have played several times to support Nene Park’s summer Music in the Park and Christmas time. We also try to bring our music to members of the community who are unable to get out and about, for example to Longueville Court Care Home and the Sue Ryder Hospice at Thorpe Hall.
We have established links with other local groups, such as Take Note Community Choir, Fenland Music Centre and Stilton Clarinet Quintet, which are excellent opportunities to collaborate and offer audiences exposure to a wider range of music.
